Le Sicilien a 18 ans et un palmar\u00e8s qui ne compte encore que deux titres dans les classes Juniors et Cadets 125cc en Italie. Autant dire qu&rsquo;il est totalement inconnu du grand public. Plus pour tr\u00e8s longtemps.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>En MX2, la saison 2004 est domin\u00e9e par Ben Townley. Le N\u00e9o-Z\u00e9landais est au sommet de sa forme et il remporte 21 des 32 manches du championnat pour devancer largement le Sud-Africain Tyla Rattray.<\/p>\n<p>Pendant que les deux hommes forts de la cat\u00e9gorie monopolisent l&rsquo;attention, le petit monde du motocross ne se doute pas encore qu&rsquo;un ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne est en train de na\u00eetre dans le peloton. Au guidon de sa Yamaha 250 YZ-F, Antonio Cairoli d\u00e9couvre la cat\u00e9gorie. Le spectaculaire Sicilien apprend vite. Tr\u00e8s vite. Le 16 mai, \u00e0 Lichtenvoorde, le jeune homme monte sur le premier podium de sa carri\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>Quelques semaines plus tard, les stars du motocross mondial ont rendez-vous, comme le voulait la tradition \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9poque, sur les hauteurs de la citadelle de Namur. Nous sommes le premier week-end d&rsquo;ao\u00fbt. Sur le circuit l\u00e9gendaire, celui o\u00f9 chaque pilote r\u00eave de s&rsquo;imposer au moins une fois dans sa carri\u00e8re, Tony Cairoli impressionne. Deuxi\u00e8me puis quatri\u00e8me dans les manches, il remporte face \u00e0 un public namurois s\u00e9duit par le style flamboyant de l&rsquo;Italien le tout premier GP de sa carri\u00e8re. Le premier d&rsquo;une s\u00e9rie toujours en cours.<\/p>\n<p>D\u00e8s la saison suivante, Antonio Cairoli deviendra pour la premi\u00e8re fois champion du monde MX2.
