Si vous suivez le championnat du monde de motocross MXGP, vous l’avez forc\u00e9ment constat\u00e9 : \u00e0 l’exception de quelques GP, la grille de d\u00e9part des deux cat\u00e9gories phares de la discipline peinent \u00e0 se remplir ces derniers mois. M\u00eame le GP de Saint-Jean-d’Ang\u00e9ly il y a 10 jours en France n’affichait que 19 pilotes en MX2 et 23 seulement en MXGP. Triste. R\u00e9pondant ce mardi aux questions de nos confr\u00e8res de \u00ab\u00a0Het Belang van Limburg\u00a0\u00bb<\/a>, Jo\u00ebl Smets se dit pr\u00e9occup\u00e9 par l’avenir du championnat du monde.<\/strong><\/p>\n

S’il n’est pas neuf que les teams, et forc\u00e9ment les plus modestes en particulier, sont r\u00e9ticents \u00e0 se d\u00e9placer en-dehors de l’Europe, le constat s’\u00e9largit depuis peu aux GP organis\u00e9s sur le vieux continent. Les grilles de d\u00e9part \u00e0 moiti\u00e9 vides du dernier GP de France faisaient peine \u00e0 voir. L’augmentation des co\u00fbts de d\u00e9placement \u00e0 supporter par les teams est \u00e9videmment l’explication principale de cette situation. M\u00eame les d\u00e9placements en Europe deviennent difficile \u00e0 supporter financi\u00e8rement pour bon nombre de teams, par ailleurs soumis \u00e0 d’importants droits d’inscriptions.<\/p>\n

Dans le journal limbourgeois, le quintuple champion du monde et actuel team manager de l’\u00e9quipe officielle KTM Jo\u00ebl Smets regrette cette situation qui le pr\u00e9occupe. Pour lui, \u00ab\u00a0la tentative du promoteur Infront Moto Racing de faire du motocross un sport d’\u00e9lite comme le MotoGP ou la F1 est un \u00e9chec. Le motocross a toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 un sport populaire, plus modeste, et il le restera.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

Il s’\u00e9tonne par ailleurs que, dans le contexte que l’on conna\u00eet, le promoteur \u00e9tablisse un calendrier qui ne tienne pas compte de cette r\u00e9alit\u00e9. \u00ab\u00a0Un titre a-t-il moins de valeur s’il se joue sur seulement 14 ou 15 GP au lieu de 18 ou 19 ? Bien s\u00fbr que non ! Vaut-il moins si le championnat ne s’est pas d\u00e9plac\u00e9 en Indon\u00e9sie ou \u00e0 Oman ? Evidemment, non ! Si on veut continuer en ce sens, il faut aider les \u00e9quipes, comme cela se fait en MotoGP. Il n’est pas normal que seule les teams aient \u00e0 supporter tout cela\u00a0\u00bb confie Smets \u00e0 nos confr\u00e8res.<\/p>\n

Le motocross en tant que sport est-il en train de mourir ? Smets est persuad\u00e9 que non. \u00ab\u00a0Quand on voit l’engouement du public sur les derniers GP cette ann\u00e9e, on ne peut que penser que le motocross est encore bien vivant\u00a0\u00bb, rassure Smets. \u00ab\u00a0Mais il faut que les lignes bougent tout en haut. Rapidement. Sans team, il n’y aura plus de places disponibles en GP. Ce sera un obstacle majeur pour le d\u00e9veloppement des jeunes pilotes.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

Alors que l’\u00e9quipe Yamaha Kemea a notamment r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 avoir d\u00fb consacrer un budget de quelque 84 000 Euros pour son d\u00e9placement en Indon\u00e9sie, on sait que des discussions ont \u00e9t\u00e9 entam\u00e9e entre Infront Moto Racing et les repr\u00e9sentants des teams, sur fond de m\u00e9contentement. Esp\u00e9rons qu’elles aboutiront \u00e0 des mesures concr\u00e8tes et constructives pour l’avenir du motocross mondial.<\/p>\n
