Il aurait fallu qu\u2019Alfred Hitchcock, Martin Scorsese, Agatha Christie et Quentin Tarantino se r\u00e9unissent pour accoucher du sc\u00e9nario \u00e0 suspense qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9crit sur l\u2019\u00e9tape de Shaybah \u00e0 la veille de l\u2019arriv\u00e9e finale du Dakar. Kevin Benavides et Toby Price en ont \u00e9t\u00e9 les auteurs, sans calcul ni strat\u00e9gie, uniquement \u00e0 la force des bras, des d\u00e9hanchements indispensables pour surfer sur les dunes\u2026 et \u00ab poign\u00e9e dans le coin \u00bb d\u00e8s que possible.<\/strong><\/p>\n

J\u00e9r\u00f4me Martiny signe une excellente performance sur cette avant-derni\u00e8re \u00e9tape. Vingt-huiti\u00e8me, il pointe 32\u00e8me au classement g\u00e9n\u00e9ral \u00e0 une \u00e9tape de la ligne d’arriv\u00e9e de son second Dakar.<\/p>\n

Sur le chemin de la 7e victoire d\u2019\u00e9tape de sa carri\u00e8re (voir la perf du jour), le pilote de Salta a stopp\u00e9 son effort en arrivant sur l\u2019accident de son co\u00e9quipier Mattias Walkner, mais s\u2019est pourtant relanc\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019assaut de son autre coll\u00e8gue chez KTM, Toby Price, qu\u2019il place dans une position ultra-inconfortable \u00e0 136 kilom\u00e8tre de la ligne d\u2019arriv\u00e9e finale. Au verdict de l\u2019\u00e9tape d\u2019Al-Hofuf, l\u2019Australien domine le classement g\u00e9n\u00e9ral avec 12\u2019\u2019 d\u2019avance sur Kevin Benavides, du jamais vu \u00e0 ce stade du rallye. Apr\u00e8s environ 3900 kilom\u00e8tres de chrono, voil\u00e0 un \u00e9cart qui repr\u00e9sente \u00e0 peine 300 m\u00e8tres, une distance que l\u2019un et l\u2019autre vont surveiller de pr\u00e8s dans le final de demain sur la route de Dammam.<\/p>\n

Skyler Howes, battu par le duo australo-argentin, n\u2019a pas totalement abdiqu\u00e9 mais les 1\u201930\u2019\u2019 qui le s\u00e9parent de Price passent presque pour un gouffre. Surtout, l\u2019ordre de d\u00e9part particulier de la derni\u00e8re sp\u00e9ciale, donn\u00e9 dans le sens inverse du classement g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, contraindra l\u2019Am\u00e9ricain \u00e0 rouler \u00ab en aveugle \u00bb, avec Benavides puis Price \u00e0 ses trousses. Deux gar\u00e7ons difficiles \u00e0 semer !<\/p>\n

Ce matin, Toby Price poss\u00e9dait 28 secondes d\u2019avance au g\u00e9n\u00e9ral sur Skyler Howes et 2\u201940\u2019\u2019 sur Kevin Benavides. \u00c0 son arriv\u00e9e de la sp\u00e9ciale du jour, longtemps apr\u00e8s ses adversaires, l\u2019Argentin avait r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 inverser la vapeur alors qu\u2019il avait pass\u00e9 23\u201910\u2019\u2019 au chevet de Matthias Walkner, son co\u00e9quipier et vainqueur du Dakar 2018 qui a quitt\u00e9 le Dakar en h\u00e9licopt\u00e8re. Dans ce contexte psychologique dont peu de champions r\u00e9ussissent \u00e0 sortir gagnant, l\u2019a\u00een\u00e9 des Benavides remportait de la sp\u00e9ciale apr\u00e8s r\u00e9int\u00e9gration de son temps d\u2019arr\u00eat. Il d\u00e9logeait son fr\u00e8re, annonc\u00e9 gagnant dans un premier temps avant de recevoir une minute de p\u00e9nalit\u00e9 pour exc\u00e8s de vitesse, laissant filer un 4e succ\u00e8s sur ce Dakar.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 la veille de l\u2019arriv\u00e9e, le vainqueur du Dakar 2021 n\u2019est plus qu\u2019\u00e0 12 secondes de l\u2019Australien, un \u00e9cart in\u00e9dit sur le Dakar ! En 2014, Peterhansel \u00e9tait en t\u00eate \u00e0 ce stade de la course pour 26 secondes devant Roma, record balay\u00e9. A moto, il ne faut pas remonter bien loin pour retrouver le plus faible \u00e9cart entre deux pilotes \u00e0 la veille de l\u2019arriv\u00e9e. En 2019, Pablo Quintanilla \u00e9tait parti 1\u201902\u2019\u2019 derri\u00e8re\u2026 Toby Price, d\u00e9j\u00e0 lui.<\/p>\n

L\u2019Australien avait atteint Lima en vainqueur, pour la deuxi\u00e8me fois de sa carri\u00e8re apr\u00e8s son succ\u00e8s de 2016. Le Chilien sur sa Husqvarna avait fini dans la douleur apr\u00e8s une chute m\u00e9morable \u00e0 la r\u00e9ception \u00e0 plat d\u2019un saut de dune. Demain, hormis une consigne d\u2019\u00e9quipe du clan autrichien, c\u2019est un sprint de 153 km auquel on devrait assister. Avec peut-\u00eatre \u00e0 la clef l\u2019\u00e9cart le plus serr\u00e9 de l\u2019histoire du Dakar entre le vainqueur et son\u00a0poursuivant\u00a0!<\/p>\n
