La province de M\u00e9dine est log\u00e9e dans le quart nord-ouest de l\u2019Arabie Saoudite et a servi de cadre exclusif \u00e0 la longue sp\u00e9ciale de 414 kilom\u00e8tres qui a d\u2019embl\u00e9e plac\u00e9 les pilotes et \u00e9quipages du Dakar face \u00e0 de r\u00e9elles difficult\u00e9s. En quittant AlUla, la partie de slalom entre les canyons s\u2019est jou\u00e9e sur du sable, mais le terrain est rapidement devenu plus technique. Plusieurs motards ont \u00e9t\u00e9 pris au pi\u00e8ge des cailloux, y compris le vainqueur du prologue Tosha Schareina qui figurait parmi les favoris \u00e0 moto, mais pas le gagnant du jour\u00a0Ross Branch\u00a0ni m\u00eame le toujours surprenant Mason Klein.<\/strong><\/p>\n

La donn\u00e9e essentielle d\u2019une course de motos consiste \u00e0 rester \u00e0 la verticale, en d\u00e9pit des rochers ou pierres de toutes tailles qui se pr\u00e9sentent devant les pilotes. Ce matin, cette partie de l\u2019exercice n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 respect\u00e9e par l\u2019exp\u00e9riment\u00e9 Joachim Rodrigues, tomb\u00e9 suffisamment s\u00e9v\u00e8rement pour abandonner au km 82, ni par le prometteur Tosha Schareina dont le troisi\u00e8me Dakar s\u2019est arr\u00eat\u00e9 au km 240 avec un bras cass\u00e9. \u00ab J-Rod \u00bb avait \u00e9t\u00e9 en 2022 le premier \u00e0 apporter une victoire d\u2019\u00e9tape au constructeur indien Hero.<\/p>\n

Et le jour de sa sortie pr\u00e9matur\u00e9, c\u2019est son coll\u00e8gue Ross Branch qui signe finalement le meilleur temps, pour la 4e fois de sa carri\u00e8re sur le Dakar. Pilote de ligne dans le civil, le Botswanais a aussi pris son envol au g\u00e9n\u00e9ral en portant \u00e0 pr\u00e8s de 12 minutes son avantage sur le vainqueur du Dakar 2020 Ricky Brabec, et sur Mason Klein, impressionnant d\u2019audace en ayant choisi de \u00ab faire la trace \u00bb et rest\u00e9 seul \u00e0 l\u2019avant tout au long de la sp\u00e9ciale.<\/p>\n

J\u00e9r\u00f4me Martiny termine cette premi\u00e8re \u00e9tape \u00e0 la 41\u00e8me place.<\/p>\n

Demain, ce sont 645 kilom\u00e8tres vers Al Duwadimi qui attendent les concurrents. Un parcours long mais roulant qui d\u00e9butera cependant par quelque 30 kilom\u00e8tres de dunes.<\/p>\n
