Jusqu&rsquo;en 2012, et l&rsquo;arriv\u00e9e de la Freeride 350cc, une machine dessin\u00e9e avant tout pour l&rsquo;enduro-loisir. Une machine passe-partout id\u00e9ale pour les assoiff\u00e9s d&rsquo;aventure et d&rsquo;\u00e9vasion avec laquelle KTM a tenu \u00e0\u00a0 aller plus loin encore cette ann\u00e9e en pr\u00e9sentant une version propuls\u00e9e par un bloc 250 2-temps. Tout porte \u00e0\u00a0 la croire, tant la philosophie du \u00ab\u00a0Ready to Race\u00a0\u00bb cher \u00e0\u00a0 KTM semble \u00e0\u00a0 l&rsquo;oppos\u00e9 de celle partag\u00e9e par les 250 et 350 Freeride Pourtant, \u00e0\u00a0 y regarder de plus pr\u00e8s, les deux machines s&rsquo;inscrivent dans la lign\u00e9e de celles produites depuis toujours \u00e0\u00a0 Mattighofen\u00a0: des motos exclusives et sans compromis.<\/p>\n<p>KTM avait surpris l&rsquo;an pass\u00e9 en pr\u00e9sentant une machine d&rsquo;enduro en d\u00e9calage avec le reste de sa production. Une machine d&rsquo;enduro a forte connotation \u00ab\u00a0trial\u00a0\u00bb, facile et l\u00e9g\u00e8re avant d&rsquo;\u00eatre performante. S\u00e9duisante, la premi\u00e8re version de la Freeride p\u00eachait cependant par des suspensions un peu \u00ab\u00a0l\u00e9g\u00e8res\u00a0\u00bb pour l&rsquo;enduriste un rien averti et des pneumatiques d&rsquo;origine que la plupart s&#8217;empressaient de remplacer par une monte enduro bien plus performante.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload alignnone size-full wp-image-19589\" title=\"L\\'ergonomie du poste de pilotage est un des points forts de la KTM Freeride.\" src=\"http:\/\/fr.motocrossmag.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/ktm_freeride_250_my14_studio.jpg\" data-orig-src=\"http:\/\/fr.motocrossmag.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/ktm_freeride_250_my14_studio.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D%27http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%27%20width%3D%27500%27%20height%3D%27236%27%20viewBox%3D%270%200%20500%20236%27%3E%3Crect%20width%3D%27500%27%20height%3D%27236%27%20fill-opacity%3D%220%22%2F%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/fr.motocrossmag.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/ktm_freeride_250_my14_studio-300x141.jpg 300w, https:\/\/fr.motocrossmag.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/ktm_freeride_250_my14_studio.jpg 500w\" data-sizes=\"auto\" data-orig-sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Comme on ne devient pas premier constructeur europ\u00e9en de deux roues par hasard, on n&rsquo;h\u00e9site jamais chez KTM \u00e0\u00a0 remettre son ouvrage sur le m\u00e9tier. Douze mois plus tard, revoici donc les Autrichiens avec la seconde version de leur Freeride, d\u00e9sormais disponible en 2 motorisations, 350 4-temps et 250 2-temps.<\/p>\n<p><strong>KTM exploite les atouts du 2-temps<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>KTM a toujours cru au 2-temps. Poids r\u00e9duit, simplicit\u00e9 m\u00e9canique et co\u00e0\u00bbt raisonnable sont autant d&rsquo;arguments qui plaident en faveur d&rsquo;une motorisation qui a plus que jamais le vent en poupe. Et qui colle \u00e0\u00a0 merveille \u00e0\u00a0 la philosophie Freeride. KTM n&rsquo;a donc pas attendu davantage pour placer le bloc 250 2-temps de son EXC enduro dans la Freeride. Badg\u00e9e \u00ab\u00a0250 R\u00a0\u00bb, la petite derni\u00e8re de la famille autrichienne se voit donc \u00e9quip\u00e9e d&rsquo;une m\u00e9canique \u00e9prouv\u00e9e mais remani\u00e9e pour correspondre au plus pr\u00e8s aux exigences d&rsquo;une machine qui se veut grand public.<\/p>\n<p>Ainsi, le cylindre a \u00e9t\u00e9 simplifi\u00e9 et perd ses valves d&rsquo;\u00e9chappement, le carburateur est r\u00e9duit \u00e0\u00a0 28mm seulement et l&rsquo;\u00e9chappement in\u00e9dit se veut le plus compact possible. Initialement pr\u00e9vu sous le moteur mais trop bruyant dans cette configuration, il passe finalement de fa\u00e7on plus classique sur la droite de celui-ci mais dans une forme ultra-plate qui lui permet de se faire oublier. \u00a0Autant de solutions techniques qui permettent \u00e0\u00a0 la Freeride 250 R de combiner un moteur incomparablement doux \u00e0\u00a0 une faible consommation. Le ratio du m\u00e9lange huile\/essence a quant a lui pu \u00eatre r\u00e9duit jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0\u00a0 1:80, de quoi limiter au maximum les \u00e9missions de fum\u00e9es. Pour le confort, la Freeride est \u00e9videmment \u00e9quip\u00e9e d&rsquo;un d\u00e9marreur \u00e9lectrique.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"lightbox dia=1\" de pr\u00e8s de 2 litres d&rsquo;essence suppl\u00e9mentaires pour porter la capacit\u00e9 totale du r\u00e9servoir \u00a0\u00e0\u00a0 7 litres. Non n\u00e9gligeable sur une machine a priori pr\u00e9vue pour les longues escapades. En comparaison avec la 350, notons que la 250 R affiche 7 kilos de moins sur la balance.<\/p>\n<p>Un rapide tour du propri\u00e9taire permet de confirmer l&rsquo;impression g\u00e9n\u00e9rale de qualit\u00e9 d\u00e9gag\u00e9e par la Freeride. Comme toujours chez KTM, l&rsquo;\u00e9quipement est de tr\u00e8s bonne facture, la d\u00e9co soign\u00e9e et de bon go\u00e0\u00bbt. Le cadre est un mod\u00e8le p\u00e9rim\u00e9trique en acier sur lequel vient se greffer un arri\u00e8re-cadre en mati\u00e8re synth\u00e9tique dont les principaux avantages sont la l\u00e9g\u00e8ret\u00e9 et la r\u00e9sistance en cas de chute.<\/p>\n<p>Les suspensions White Power ont re\u00e7u de nouveaux settings tandis que les pneus Maxxis qui \u00e9quipent la Freeride en premi\u00e8re monte ont pour leur part \u00e9t\u00e9 sp\u00e9cialement con\u00e7us pour la machine. A mi-chemin entre un pneu enduro et un pneu trial, ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 dessin\u00e9s pour offrir un maxium de traction en toutes circonstances tout en offrant une long\u00e9vit\u00e9 satisfaisante, m\u00eame en usage routier.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Un terrain de jeu sans compromis<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pour tester les nouvelles Freeride en conditions \u00ab\u00a0\u00e9vasion\u00a0\u00bb, KTM avait convi\u00e9 la presse sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9e dans le fabuleux domaine de \u00ab\u00a0Il Ciocco\u00a0\u00bb, en Italie. Le paradis pour tout amoureux de randonn\u00e9e off-road. Un paradis qui peut aussi tr\u00e8s vite se transformer en enfer. Une petite pression sur le d\u00e9marreur et la Freeride 250 R se met en marche dans un bruit aussi discret qu&rsquo;\u00e9touff\u00e9, fa\u00e7on machine de trial. D\u00e8s les premiers m\u00e8tres \u00e0\u00a0 son guidon, on se rend compte que l&rsquo;on n&rsquo;est assur\u00e9ment pas aux commandes d&rsquo;une machine d&rsquo;enduro comme les autres. La machine est assez basse, remarquablement fine et d\u00e9gage une impression de l\u00e9g\u00e8ret\u00e9 incomparable. Plaisant\u00a0! En revanche, il faut s&rsquo;habituer \u00e0\u00a0 la position de pilotage. L&rsquo;ergonomie g\u00e9n\u00e9rale est excellente mais le triangle selle-guidon-reposes-pied est diff\u00e9rent de celui d&rsquo;une machine d&rsquo;enduro traditionnelle. A vrai dire, on a un peu de mal \u00e0\u00a0 trouver sa position. Et, m\u00eame si les kilom\u00e8tres aident \u00e0\u00a0 trouver ses marques sur la Freeride, la position debout reste un poil fatiguante, sans \u00eatre d\u00e9sagr\u00e9able pour autant. Ce qui l&rsquo;est davantage en revanche, c&rsquo;est la position du s\u00e9lecteur de vitesses, tr\u00e8s loin du repose-pied, qui vous contraint \u00e0\u00a0 un r\u00e9el effort \u00e0\u00a0 chaque passage de rapport.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Franchir l&rsquo;infranchissable<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Heureusement, on finit par s&rsquo;habituer \u00e0\u00a0 tout et il est vrai que l&rsquo;on ne change pas tr\u00e8s souvent de vitesses sur une machine dont le moteur affiche une souplesse qui m\u00e9rite tous les superlatifs. Jamais brutal, voire effac\u00e9 lorsque l&rsquo;on souhaite attaquer dans une portion rapide, le bloc de la 250 R r\u00e9pond pr\u00e9sent \u00e0\u00a0 tous les r\u00e9gimes et sera votre allier le plus pr\u00e9cieux dans toutes les situations d\u00e9licates. Sur notre terrain d&rsquo;essain truff\u00e9 de pierres et de rochers en tout genre, il nous a permis plus souvent qu&rsquo;\u00e0\u00a0 son tour de nous sortir des plus improbables des situations. M\u00eame pratiquement arr\u00eat\u00e9e au beau milieu d&rsquo;une c\u00f4te jonch\u00e9e de rochers humides, la KTM continue a offrir la traction suffisante pour atteindre le sommet sans mettre le pied \u00e0\u00a0 terre. Incroyable\u00a0! On aurait presqu&rsquo;envie de r\u00e9server notre place pour la Hell&rsquo;s Gate 2014, pour autant que ce soit au guidon d&rsquo;une Freeride. Les suspensions sont quant \u00e0\u00a0 elles en net progr\u00e8s par rapport au mod\u00e8le 2013. Toujours souples, elles se veulent n\u00e9anmoins plus \u00ab\u00a0s\u00e9rieuses\u00a0\u00bb lorsqu&rsquo;il s&rsquo;agit d&rsquo;encaisser de gros chocs.
