Apr\u00e8s avoir gagn\u00e9 les qualifs avec style au petit matin, Herlings a \u00e9t\u00e9 inarr\u00eatable lors de la finale. Il a litt\u00e9ralement fonc\u00e9 sur la piste des 5km dessin\u00e9e \u00e0 la Hague, aux Pays-Bas. D\u00e9j\u00e0 reconnu comme le meilleur rider sur sable de la plan\u00e8te, Herlings a confirm\u00e9 son statut avec une d\u00e9monstration \u00e9poustouflante qui parach\u00e8ve une saison pleine. C&rsquo;est en plus la premi\u00e8re victoire d&rsquo;un N\u00e9erlandais sur ses terres au Red Bull Knock Out depuis Marc De Reuver en 2006.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mais pendant qu&rsquo;Herlings \u00e9tait loin devant, une course palpitante se d\u00e9roulait derri\u00e8re lui.<\/p>\n<h5>Coldenhoff et Watson \u00e0 la lutte<\/h5>\n<p>Le premier tour a vu Herlings prendre imm\u00e9diatement les commandes de la course, devant le tenant du titre Axel van de Sande et son co\u00e9quipier KTM Glenn Coldenhoff, avec Steve Ramon en embuscade. Apr\u00e8s moins de 10 minutes de course, Herlings comptait d\u00e9j\u00e0 19 secondes d&rsquo;avance.<\/p>\n<p>Le N\u00e9erlandais Coldenhoff a doubl\u00e9 van de Sande dans le tour suivant, et le v\u00e9t\u00e9ran belge Ramon, vainqueur ici en 2008, a pris la troisi\u00e8me place du haut de ses 36 ans pour tenter de concurrencer les deux bataves.<\/p>\n<p>Pendant qu&rsquo;Herlings continuait \u00e0 creuser l&rsquo;\u00e9cart, la bataille pour les deuxi\u00e8me et troisi\u00e8me places a donn\u00e9 lieu \u00e0 un grand spectacle.<\/p>\n<p>Apr\u00e8s l&rsquo;arr\u00eat aux stands de Coldenhoff \u00e0 mi-parcours, Ramon a repris la deuxi\u00e8me place. Apr\u00e8s l&rsquo;abandon de Van de Sande et de Jamie McCanney, tout allait se jouer entre Ramno, Coldenhoff et le Britannique Nathan Wilson.<\/p>\n<p>Ramon est \u00e9galement rentr\u00e9 aux stands, ce qui a permis \u00e0 Coldenhoff de r\u00e9cup\u00e9rer la 2\u00e8me place. Qu&rsquo;est-ce qui allait se passer \u00e0 l&rsquo;entr\u00e9e dans le X-Loop, nouveaut\u00e9 de 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Section in\u00e9dite tr\u00e8s difficile et tr\u00e8s technique pr\u00e9vue dans les 45 derni\u00e8res minutes de course, elle a \u00e9prouv\u00e9 les riders fatigu\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00eame si ce passage \u00e9tait plus favorable aux talents de Watson, \u00e0 ce moment-l\u00e0, Herlings avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 deux minutes d&rsquo;avance.<\/p>\n<p>10 minutes apr\u00e8s l&rsquo;entr\u00e9e dans le X-Loop, Watson a pris la deuxi\u00e8me place en doublant Coldenhoff. Ce dernier a refus\u00e9 d&rsquo;abandonner, et cela donn\u00e9 une belle passe d&rsquo;armes entre les deux hommes jusqu&rsquo;au ravitaillement de Coldenhoff, qui a permis \u00e0 Watson de partir seul \u00e0 la poursuite d&rsquo;Herlings. Mais le leader de la course avait tellement d&rsquo;avance qu&rsquo;il a pu effectuer son second arr\u00eat aux stands et ressortir malgr\u00e9 tout en premi\u00e8re position.<\/p>\n<h5>D\u00e9part canon pour Herlings<\/h5>\n<p>Herlings a lanc\u00e9 les hostilit\u00e9s de la journ\u00e9e en remportant la qualif du matin, qui comprenait 1000 riders pr\u00eats \u00e0 en d\u00e9coudre. Parmi les 100 premiers riders \u00e0 s&rsquo;\u00e9lancer, on retrouvait des grands noms tels que\u00a0Glenn Coldenhoff, Steve Ramon, les fr\u00e8res Nathan et Ben Watson, ainsi que des sp\u00e9cialistes des courses de sable comme le champion en titre Axel van de Sande et le Fran\u00e7ais Camille Chapeli\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>Watson \u00e9tait en t\u00eate avant de se faire doubler par Chapeli\u00e8re.
