La Bibione Sand Storm, organisée dans la station balnéaire du même nom, en Italie, troisième manche du championnat du monde FIM Sand Races, a une nouvelle fois confirmé la suprématie du Britannique Todd Kellett. Vainqueur de la première journée avec une large avance sur Milko Potisek et Jérémy Hauquier, le pilote Yamaha Drag’on Tek a doublé la mise dimanche au terme d’une deuxième manche haletante face à Cyril Genot.
Après plus d’une heure et demie de course, Kellett s’est imposé pour seulement 1,2 seconde face à Cyril Genot, auteur d’un départ parfait et longtemps en tête. Victime d’un mauvais départ, Kellett a dû cravacher pour remonter le peloton et offrir au public italien un duel de titans avec notre compatriote. Derrière le duo de tête, le coéquipier de Genot Håkon Fredriksen termine troisième devant Jérémy Hauquier.
La veille, Kellett s’était imposé devant Potisek et Hauquier alors que Cyril Genot était pour sa part victime d’une grosse chute au départ et se voyait plus tard contraint de jeter l’éponge à cause d’un ennui mécanique.
Le Néerlandais Damien Knuiman a confirmé sa belle forme en signant une solide quatrième place au classement final, juste devant un autre jeune pilote Yamaha, notre compatriote Tias Callens, constant tout le week-end avec une nouvelle 7e position. Milko Potisek, retardé par une chute au départ, a réussi une belle remontée jusqu’à la 10e place, tandis que Joey Nuques a dû abandonner, blessé à l’épaule après une chute.
Chez les dames, le suspense était également au rendez-vous. Victorieuse le premier jour, la sextuple championne du monde de motocross Kiara Fontanesi a dû s’incliner face à Amandine Verstappen, meilleure en seconde manche (22e au général, juste devant Fontanesi).
